As part of the strategy, the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, welcomed the French Foreign Minister, Stéphane Séjourné, yesterday, with whom he discussed the issue.

An official statement stated that he stressed the need to take advantage of the ongoing indirect negotiations between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in order to avoid escalation.

El-Sisi warned that the current conflict will push the region into a destructive cycle of instability.

He also reaffirmed the international community’s responsibility to put pressure to reduce tension and address the root causes of the war through the establishment of a Palestinian state.

For his part, Séjourné praised Egypt’s vital role as mediator, along with Qatar and the United States, in reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and facilitating the exchange of prisoners.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty addressed the issue in a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Ali Bagheri Kani.

The Foreign Ministry stated that the talks ‘took place as part of Egypt’s intensive communication with all regional and international players to restrain the ongoing escalation’.
