Ecuador’s Left insists on electoral unity agreement

Quito, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) Left-wing organizations and movements in Ecuador continue today with calls and actions for a unity agreement in view of the general elections of 2025 in this South American nation.

Through a communiqué, the National Coordination of Social Organizations of the Left and Progressive movements here informed that after several days of work, they managed to finalize the first draft of the joint government program.

Representatives of the Citizen Revolution (RC), Pachakutik, the Socialist Party, the Democratic Center and RETO attended the meetings that took place in this capital.

The document prepared must be presented and discussed within each of the political organizations, to finally know in a new joint meeting whether or not there are final and definitive agreements.

The presidency of Ecuador is aspired today by 17 candidates, after the political organizations and movements here concluded the primary elections.

All candidates publicly accepted their nominations and now the National Electoral Council (CNE) will verify if the political organizations comply with the requirements before the official registration.

According to the electoral schedule, between September 13 and October 2, political parties and movements must register candidates and only those that have carried out technical and transparent processes will be able to advance, according to the CNE.

In February 2025 Ecuador will elect president, vice-president, 151 legislators, and five Andean parliamentarians.

Those elected will hold office for the period 2025-2029 and will replace those who took office exceptionally in 2023, after then president Guillermo Lasso decreed the cross death.
