The top-level meeting is being held under the theme “Promoting innovation to open up opportunities for sustained economic growth and development towards an industrialized SADC”.
According to the agreement, during the 44th Summit, Emmerson Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, will assume the chairmanship of SADC from João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola.
SADC member states are Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
According to the program, some of the key issues of the 44th Summit will include reviewing progress in the implementation of the priorities of the SADC Regional Strategic Indicative Development Plan (Risdp) 2020-2030.
Also to be briefed on food security and the impact of El Niño-induced drought and flooding in the SADC region; and to review progress in implementing the theme of the 43rd SADC Summit, which was “Human and Financial Capital: the Key Drivers of Sustainable Industrialization in the Region.”
