According to the politician in an interview to the Izvestia newspaper, after another failed coup attempt in Venezuela, Washington is offering President Nicolas Maduro an early resignation, promising in return to refuse to prosecute him further, in accordance with US laws.
Venezuela held presidential elections on July 28 and, according to data from the National Electoral Council, the current president was reelected with 51,95% of the votes against the opposition Edmundo Gonzalez with 43,18%.
Washington, without waiting for the results of the recount and subsequent vote audit, asked the world community to recognize opposition leader Gonzalez Urrutia as the winner of the presidential elections, “given the clear evidence”.
U.S. and European Union lawmakers, who oversee international relations, have threatened President Maduro, with “accountability” if he does not voluntarily relinquish his powers as head of state after the past elections, calling the voting results fabricated.
