Luanda, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) The monkeypox (Mpox) virus is spreading and raising concerns in several African countries, and without adequate measures to counter it, it could become a pandemic worse than Covid-19, a regional health authority said on Friday.
Jean Kaseya, Director-General of the African Union’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa-CDC), told reporters about the urgency to take concrete action and praised Angolan President, Joao Lourenco, for his willingness to promote relevant countermeasures.
Lourenco met with the health official shortly before the former left for Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, to participate in the 44th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which opens on Saturday.
Kaseya, who ended today a working visit to Luanda, to assess a number of health issues affecting Africa, expressed satisfaction over progress achieved by Angola in this area.
