Lebanese authorities demand halt to Israeli crimes

Beirut, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) Lebanese authorities today demanded a halt to Israeli attacks against the south of the country and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Upon receiving separately the Egyptian foreign minister, Badr Abdelatty, the speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri; the interim prime minister, Najib Mikati, and the head of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Bou Habib, agreed on the need to pressure Israel to put an end to its crimes and implement Security Council Resolution 1701.

In this regard, the Lebanese officials thanked Cairo for its support to the nation of the cedars, as well as the Arab and international efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.

The highest figure in the legislature considered that the true root of the conflict in the region is the Palestinian question, granting the people their legitimate rights.

Berri indicated that the success of the talks in the Qatari capital, Doha, to achieve a ceasefire is the main door to the return of stability and solutions in the Middle East.

During the meeting at the Government Palace, the head of the Lebanese Executive renewed the commitment to fully implement International Resolution 1701.

In a press conference from the Foreign Ministry, Bou Habib stressed the need for Arab support to Lebanon to stop Israel’s aggression, end its attacks and restore calm in the south of the country.

According to the head of Lebanese diplomacy, the five-member Arab ministerial committee in charge of communicating with Syria must restart its work as soon as possible to discuss all pending issues, including the refugee crisis and help the neighboring nation.

At this point, he acknowledged the visit of the Egyptian diplomat to Beirut in light of the delicate stage that the country faces as a result of Israeli brutality.

For his part, Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s full support for Lebanon and its condemnation of any attack on its lands.

At the same time, he commented on efforts to avoid war, “because the stability and security of Lebanon are in the Egyptian and Arab interest.”

In this regard, the distinguished visitor explained that Cairo is seeking through the Doha talks to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.

Abdelatty arrived in Beirut hours after the stay of the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Stéphane Ségournet, and the American envoy Amos Hochstein, in the context of a diplomatic move aimed at avoiding an escalation in the region.
