The presentation of the “From the Land to your Hands” crop substitution alliance took place on Thursday in northwestern Nuevo Belen de Bajira, which is notorious for the presence of coca, but where there is also land where the best quality bananas, cassava and passion fruit, among other agricultural products, are grown.
In his speech, Petro advocated for a change in land use that dignifies the lives of those who work the land and does not contribute to the perpetuation of violence.
“Violence is generated when there is social inequality. Our Constitution does not proclaim that because of our skin color we should be poor or rich,” Petro mulled and added that the excluded territory has to be the priority of public investment, because there is no other way to close the gap.
The initiative presented on Thursday reportedly marks a strategic alliance between the State and a private Colombian company.
Meanwhile, Exito freelance Group committed to purchase at stable prices 400,000 kilograms per month of inputs nationwide to the peasant communities that make the transition from illicit crops to licit economies.
