The Caricom team exchanged ideas with the Multinational Security Support Mission Commander, Godfrey Otunge.
The meeting addressed the challenges and problems that must be solved to allow other contributing countries to send their personnel to Haiti, Haiti Libre reported.
The visit to Haiti also raised the idea of Caricom supervising the general elections. Interim Prime Minister Garry Conille welcomed the initiative.
“The Eminent Personalities came since August 10 to supervise the progress in the establishment of the transitional bodies” the president of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT), Edgard Leblanc, reported.
They took note of the progress in forming the National Conference and establishing the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).
In an unprecedented effort to address the crucial challenges facing the country, the CPT issued on July 20, a decree establishing an exceptional participatory mechanism called the National Conference.
