Angola does not register cases of Mpox

Luanda, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) Angola continues today without registering cases of smallpox (Mpox), but reinforced measures of the contingency plan, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Carlos Alberto Pinto, assured.

Actions for the prevention and control of this disease have been implemented for two months, but in view of the alert issued by the World Health Organization, which this week declared a sanitary emergency of international importance, the country redoubled its vigilance, Pinto said in declarations to the Angolan Public Television.

The Secretary of State detailed that in the last two weeks five new African countries registered cases of the disease, so one of the focuses of attention is mobility and borders in general, but in particular with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo.

He also pointed out the importance of risk communication, to provide the population with more information on the ways of contagion, signs and symptoms, and prevention measures, so that they become active in prevention.

Pinto remarked that epidemiological, clinical and laboratory surveillance are active, with particular emphasis on border control, where upon entry of people coming from countries where Mpox is present, all data are taken, a search is carried out and in case of suspicion, samples are taken for laboratory tests.
