In a statement circulated here and entitled “Neither cohabitation nor betrayal: the people of Venezuela have already decided”, those groups said they know, love and defend the Bolivarian people, and therefore reject the slightest idea or suggestion that implies an act of interference.
In so speaking, Our America takes a stand against “implementing diplomatic, political, military, or any other kind of intervention” in Venezuela, which would amount to an actual disregard of the results of an electoral process that has already been completed, giving victory to incumbent President Nicolas Maduro, who won 51.95 percent of the votes.
“Such suggestions are nothing but disregard of their sovereignty and lack of respect for the citizens’ will expressed in the July 28 elections,” The group indicated.
Well aware of the democratic spirit guiding the governments of Brazil and Colombia, ALBA Movements voiced their hopes that both countries’ leaders “will live up to the people they represent and who elected them, by respecting the sovereignty of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its institutions”.
They also warned that allowing half-baked measures to thrive or insinuating the use of extra-national methods to “resolve” the coup attempt “will only create opportunities for imperialism, which has been dreaming of this moment for more than 25 years to overthrow the Revolution.”
