Nicaragua with more than two billion dollars exports

Managua, Aug 15 (Prensa Latina) Nicaragua's total exports to the second quarter of this year reached 2,022.3 billion dollars, which today registers an inter-annual growth of 2.7 percent, informed the Central Bank.

The most recent report of this financial entity on foreign trade stated that of the total shipments outside the country, 56.3 percent correspond to merchandise exports (1,137.7 million dollars), and the rest to free trade zone goods (884.6 million dollars).

The text of the Nicaraguan Central Bank (BCN), referring to the inter-annual growth of 2.7 percent, pointed out that this result is due to the increase of 4.9 percent in merchandise exports. Free trade zone shipments abroad were similar to those recorded in the same period of last year.

The BCN reported a 29.8 percent growth in exports from the mining sector, and to a lesser extent from the manufacturing industry (+6.7), due to the contribution of the food industry (+12.8 percent).

Total exports to June, in accumulated terms, amounted to 3,946.6 billion dollars and showed a year-on-year decrease of 0.9 percent due to the 2.2 percent drop in free trade zone shipments.

On the other hand, total imports up to the sixth month of the year amounted to five thousand 191 million dollars, with a year-on-year growth of 9.0 percent, due to the 12.9 percent increase in merchandise imports, which prevailed over the 2.7 percent decrease in free zone imports.

‘As a result of the behavior of total exports and imports, a trade deficit of 630.4 million dollars was recorded in the second quarter, higher by 19.0 percent than that recorded in the same period of 2023 (529.8 million dollars)’, the report stressed.
