In a press release addressed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu, the Sandinista Executive extended a fraternal embrace with the affection and respect of the Nicaraguan people to the Indian citizens.
The message recalled this historic date in the struggle for independence from British colonialism that Mahatma Gandhi, the father of this nation, hero of many battles, and distinguished creator and promoter of non-violence, fought with his people.
“A principle to which we attach, with enthusiasm, all nations and governments globally that, following his memorable example, fight daily for justice and peace for the human family,” the text, signed by President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo, stated.
The letter reaffirms Nicaragua’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the bonds of brotherhood, solidarity, and cooperation that unite the two countries and governments.
India’s independence consisted of several movements that began in 1857 and ended in 1947 under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, who preached non-violent protest and civil disobedience.
