DPRK celebrates anniversary of its liberation

Pyongyang, Aug 15 (Prensa Latina) The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) celebrated today the 79th anniversary of its victory against Japanese occupiers with various political, cultural and sports activities.

Thousands of citizens visited the Kumsusan Sun Palace, where the mortal remains of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, also commander of the Korean People’s Army and top leader of the country, are kept.

The scene was repeated at various places in the capital and the nation associated with the war against Japanese colonialism, which lasted 20 years and culminated with the liberation of the country on August 15, 1945.

On the occasion, leaders of other countries and revolutionary organizations around the world as well as representatives of the accredited diplomatic corps here sent congratulations to Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and chairman of the State Affairs Committee.

Organizations of Koreans living abroad and scholars of the Juche idea in other countries joined the congratulations.

Meanwhile, local media reported on the activities held on the occasion by members of the General Federation of Trade Unions, the Patriotic Socialist Youth Union, the Socialist Women’s Union and other organizations.
