The provisional Prime Minister of Haiti, Garry Conille welcomed the initiative during a meeting with prominent personalities from this organization.
Conille recently joined the list of politicians who are skeptical about holding general elections in the Caribbean nation in 2026.
Conille’s pessimistic attitude stems from the slowness shown by the international community that does not realize the idea of the Mission to Support the Maintenance of Security in Haiti promoted within the United Nations Organization.
“Aid is arriving too slowly and people are impatient,” Conille stressed. We have about 103 police officers for every 100,000 citizens, it is obvious that we are short of personnel, hence the importance of Haiti’s partners and neighbors fulfilling their commitments, said Conille.
The Haitian people are extremely patient, the team formed for the transition is very fragile, and is based on the expectation that support will arrive soon, said the interim prime minister quoted by the digital newspaper Haiti Libre.
The first Kenyan officers arrived in Haiti on June 25, and have been here for just over two months, but the population is still waiting for the results, it is enough to see that the 400 Mawozo gang controls several areas a few kilometers from the border with the Dominican Republic.
If the country does not soon receive the promised security aid, it will be very difficult to hold general elections in 2026, said the transitional prime minister, Garry Conille.
