Bolivian gov’t approves decrees promoting emergency economic policy

La Paz, Aug 15 (Prensa Latina) The government of Bolivia approved a series of decrees aimed at enabling productive and social advances as part of its commitment to a plan of national emergency economic policy measures.

The Ministers of Economy, Marcelo Montenegro; of Productive Development, Néstor Huanca; and Public Works, Edgar Montaño; reported this Wednesday at a press conference about the approval of new regulations that will benefit different sectors.

A Supreme Decree was approved to import equipment with zero tariffs to promote building biodiesel plants for the further production of biofuel in Bolivia. The initiative foresees the increase of new soybean, cusi and totaí crops, among others, destined exclusively for sale to Bolivian Fiscal Oil Fields to produce biofuel.

Another approved decree authorizes the import of wheat (in flour and grain) with zero percent tariff tax until December 31st, 2024 to guarantee supply to the national market.

A third decree requires the registration of digital applications for the passenger transportation service in the country before the Telecommunications and Transportation Regulation and Supervision Authority to reinforce citizen security, which according to Montaño is unprecedented since this type of registry did not exist in Bolivia before.

During his speech for the 199th anniversary of Bolivia’s independence on August 6th, President Luis Arce announced a plan of national emergency economic policy measures, as part of which the national government plans to immediately implement different actions to respond to the adverse global and internal economic situation that the country faces.
