Presidents arrive in Dom Rep to attend Abinader’s inauguration

Santo Domingo, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) Several presidents, vice presidents, and other heads of delegations are already in the Dominican Republic to attend the swearing-in of re-elected President Luis Abinader on Friday, official sources informed on Wednesday.

Suriname’s President Chandrikapersad Santokhi, his wife Melissa Santokhi, Chancellor Albert R. Ramdin, and other authorities arrived last night in this capital.

Earlier, Cuba’s Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia was received at the Las Americas International Airport by Juan Jose Porto Real, Chief of Staff of the Cuban Foreign Ministry (MINREX), and his country’s Ambassador here, Angel Arzuaga.

Also included are Agriculture Minister Ydael Perez, and Rafael Dausa, Director General for Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean at MINREX.

The presidential press office stated that other presidents and special guests would arrive in this country on Wednesday to participate in the head of State’s investiture.

As usual, the swearing-in ceremony of this nation’s president takes place every four years on August 16. This time, it will be held at the Eduardo Brito National Theater.

The Grito de Capotillo (Cry of Capotillo) took place on August 16, 1863, beginning the War of Restoration, a patriotic action that consolidated national independence.

Among the presidents confirmed are those of Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Guyana.

Abinader won the presidential re-election as a candidate of the Modern Revolutionary Party after defeating former President Leonel Fernandez, candidate of the People’s Force (FP) political party, who received 28.85 percent, and former mayor of Santiago de los Caballeros, Abel Martinez, an aspirant of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), with 10.39 percent
