During a speech last night on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the foundation of the Naval Force of the Nicaraguan Armed Forces, the president recalled that the Cuban Revolution shook Latin America, and then the Sandinista Popular Revolution came to stay.
“Revolutions that did away completely with the structure of the powers that (…) imposed the doctrine that said “America for the Americans”, that is (Latin) America for the Yankees,” Ortega said, and commented that years later, the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela came a different way, led by Commander Hugo Chávez.
Ortega highlighted the heroism of the people of Venezuela and Chávez, who ascribed to the Christian principle of loving your neighbor like yourself. “He put it in practice in favor of the poor, the unprotected; in the poorest countries of Our America, there was Commander Hugo Chávez,” he said.
The head of State referred to the current situation in Venezuela following the recent elections, and reiterated that Nicolás Maduro was elected president by the votes of the people.
“They have installed now a coup where they manipulate technology, which ought to serve for good, not for evil,” Ortega saod regarding the Venezuelan opposition and fascist groups that tried to destabilize the country. “But we are sure that Commander Chávez is there, by the people’s side, by Nicolás (Maduro)’s side, who will be victors, they are victorious,” he stressed.
