Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian stressed that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China and reiterated his country’s opposition to any kind of official exchange between Taipei and the countries with which Beijing maintains diplomatic relations.
The spokesperson added that the Taiwan issue is purely China’s internal affair and constitutes the political foundation in China-Japan relations, “a red line that must not be crossed.”
Lin recalled that Tokyo forcibly occupied Taiwan for a fifty-year-long colonial rule, therefore, it has a historical responsibility to the Chinese people for the crimes committed at that time.
The Chinese official urged Japanese politicians to learn from history and respect the four political documents governing bilateral relations and called on them not to send the wrong signals to separatist forces seeking Taiwan’s independence.
Lin Jian criticized Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for insisting on the separatist stance and allying with external forces to advance its independence agenda
