Kinos Katuho, president of the local Mamove civil society, stated that Saturday’s attack claimed 18 lives and also burned several houses.
Katuho told Radio Okapi station that 14 people are still missing after that incident, and assessed that the Army’s response to ADF violence has generally been ineffective.
He added that ADF rebels continue moving freely between the villages of Beu-Maniama and Mabuo in the Beni-Mbau sector.
The ADF, a rebel group linked to the Islamic State, has left a trail of death in the DRC.
In June only, it killed 200 people in North Kivu and more than 100 in July, mostly in the Beni-Mbau sector.
