The project called Bat-tastic, focuses on the dietary flexibility of bats by analyzing their feces and seeks to determine food sources, Biologist and researcher Gliselle Marin said. As she explained, the adaptive abilities of bats are surprising, they help in understanding the ecological impacts of climate change and allow an understanding of how habitat fragmentation affects the diet and overall survival of these mammals.
For Marin, the message of this investigation is that everything is interconnected: people, bats, and nature, so it is essential to clarify what can benefit everyone.
Belize is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the region, with dozens of archaeological reserves in what was once the great Mayan nation and home to numerous species, including some 80 bats.
