The spokeswoman commented on Telegram about the fire that broke out in the infrastructure of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant after an attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the city of Energodar, where the facility is located.
“The [Ukrainian] nationalists destroyed their country, wiped out the Ukrainian people, undermined global energy and food security, and the current step is to provoke a nuclear threat on the continent,” Zakharova stressed.
The diplomat went on to criticize the inaction of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and its president, Rafael Grossi, as she considered that the entity did not condemn the actions of the Ukrainian armed forces.
The governor of the Zaporozhye region, Evgeny Balitsky, reported recently that the facility’s cooling systems caught fire as a result of a drone strike launched by the Ukrainian army.
According to the authority, the six blocks of the power plant are in cold shutdown mode, there is no threat of steam explosion. Radiation at Energodar does not exceed the norms.
