The consequences of the worsening crisis in Sudan prompted United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to express his “deep concern” for the course of events and their devastating consequences.
Forces of the Transitional Sovereign Council (TSC), loyal to General Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan, have been fighting with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo since April in a war that has devastated Sudan.
The economic consequences, however, pale compared to more than 11,000 dead, more injured, and almost 11 million people who have been internally and internationally displaced.
Allies during the war against South Sudanese separatists, Al-Burhan and Dagalo have had irreconcilable differences over the fate of the RSF forces and weapons, which the CST president wants to integrate into the national army under his command, a possibility the militia warlord denies.
