Argentine University Union Front begins strike

Buenos Aires, Aug 12 (Prensa Latina) The National Universities' Union Front started a 72-hour strike on Monday demanding better wages and condemning the Argentine Government's policies.

As in previous months, members of the National Federation of University Professors (CONADU), the Historical CONADU, the Confederation of Education Workers (CTERA), and other organizations are conducting a three-day protest to reveal the sector’s situation and demands.

These groups stated in a press release that they aim to demand a real recovery of salaries in a context marked by a complex socio-economic crisis.

Participants also demand the updating of pensions, the Teachers Incentive Fund (FONID) return, and the elimination of the income tax. Under the motto “No quality public university without decent salaries,” the Front continues with an action plan to defend education and its professionals.
