A note from the Angolan Presidency stated that the visit is part of efforts to promote peace and security in the DRC, following the ceasefire in force since August 4 between Rwanda and that country, mediated by Angola.
The Angolan president addressed the issue with Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Sunday during a meeting held before the inauguration ceremony of the Rwandan president.
According to the press release, several topics, from bilateral cooperation to African current affairs, were on the table, highlighting the ceasefire in the conflict between Rwanda and the DRC.
The DRC accuses Rwanda of supporting the March 23 Movement (M23) rebels, who hold several cities and towns in eastern DRC, while Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, claims that the Congolese government supports the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR, in French).
Angola is acting as a mediator appointed by the African Union in the conflict between these two countries.
