The attorney stated so during Friday’s tour of the district of Izalco, East Sonsonate, where she attended a rally to commemorate the National and International Day of Indigenous Peoples, which was organized by the Coordinating Council of Indigenous Peoples of El Salvador.
Guevara showed her support for the community and stressed the importance of recognizing their universal rights. “It has been a great step in the constitutional recognition of the rights of indigenous peoples, it has been a great step to recognize a National Day. Now the challenge as a country is to foster public policies in favor of indigenous peoples, in such a way that they can defend their strategic interests from their cosmovision, the prosecutor noted.
During the festivity in El Llanito, in the district of Izalco, East Sonsonate, participants walked accompanied by songs and dances in the central park of the town, in addition to a ritual of the sacred fire that means life and universal energy.
El Llanito is a land considered sacred by the mayor’s office of the “Comun” – indigenous authority, and the rest of the Izalqueños who recognize its origin.
On the spiritual ceremony they made reference to the 20 Naguals or Nawals, which is the energy, spirit or force of the beings and elements of nature. According to the Mayan cosmovision, these are symbols that represent and link each person with the ecosystem, thus creating balance.
