Venezuela still standing, says US activist

Washington, Aug 9 (Prensa Latina) Activist Gloria La Riva, coordinator of the Cuba-Venezuela Solidarity Committee in the United States, said today that imperialism's attempts to destroy the Bolivarian Revolution do not stop, but it is still standing.

They threaten Venezuela with more brutal sanctions, after proving that the electoral show for the opposition with the elections of July 28 went badly; “President Nicolás Maduro was reelected, he remains firm and with a lot of support,” the former presidential candidate for the Socialism and Liberation Party stressed to Prensa Latina.

Regarding the International Day of Action in solidarity with the South American nation, the activist said she witnessed the marches in support of Maduro from different sectors every night to the Miraflores Palace (seat of government).

The atmosphere of chaos that some major media outlets want to convey is “pure lies,” said La Riva, who traveled to Venezuela with a delegation from the International Assembly of Peoples, most of them young, to accompany observers during the elections.

In that country, there are those who want to erase not only Maduro, but the entire legacy of Chavismo (followers of leader Hugo Chávez), she said.

The situation is difficult because of the sanctions, because of the effort to create destabilization, but the Revolution continues to fight and I have confidence in the creativity of the government, she said.

She commented that it is a tremendous achievement that they have replaced almost all food imports and much of what they consume in Venezuela is their own production.

La Riva stressed that the brotherhood between Cuba and Venezuela is essential for both countries and for all of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The supportive friend added there are many activities in the United States in support of Venezuela these days and “our responsibility is to expose the reality, because there is a lot of confusion due to the very hostile propaganda” against that nation and its president.

“They repeat the lie of fraud, they disqualify Nicolás Maduro, it is tremendous,” emphasized La Riva, who made her first trip to Venezuela in 2001 and has already been there more than twenty times.

On July 28, Venezuela held elections -with the scrutiny of hundreds of international observers- in which President Maduro was reelected with 51.59 percent of the votes for the period 2025-2031.

However, the United States Government ignored the will of the Venezuelan people and “has tried once again to destabilize the democratic process and the independence of Venezuela through violent attacks and operations together with right-wing governments in the region and the world,” denounced the organization The People’s Forum in X.
