During this Wednesday, fire-fighting services and other involved persons extinguished forest fires that broke out in 13 regions of Russia, the agency reported to the press.
At the beginning of the day 133 active fire outbreaks were detected on an area of 778,592 hectares across the country. The most affected area continues to be the Yakutia region, in eastern Russia, with 49 forest fires in an area of 525,518 hectares.
With its vast coniferous forests, Yakutia is one of the largest green lungs on the planet with more than three million square kilometers, an area larger than Argentina or Mexico.
Every year, due to high temperatures and lack of precipitation, as well as the action of pyromaniacs, many regions of central and eastern Russia are affected by forest fires.
