Interest grows in Lebanon’s Hezbollah military arsenal

Beirut, Aug 6 (Prensa Latina) Western media show interest in the military arsenal of the Lebanese Resistance (Hezbollah) in light of the danger of a broader escalation, with repercussions for the entire region.

The British newspaper The Times commented on the capabilities of the Lebanese movement, including its possession of a “budget version of a nuclear deterrent” with thousands of long-range missiles. According to the publication, if Hezbollah launches all these missiles in massive bursts, it will quickly overwhelm Israeli air defenses and destroy population centers and infrastructure throughout the north of the country. The newspaper called “conservative” the estimate of more than 150,000 missiles in the hands of the Lebanese Resistance, and set its arsenal of rockets, drones, mortars, and artillery at half a million.

Hezbollah has already inflicted damage in the north since last October using suicide bomb drones, many of which are capable of bypassing Israeli defenses, Bloomberg reported for its part.

According to the US magazine Foreign Affairs, Israel attempted to regain deterrence capability through a dangerous military escalation in the Middle East, carrying out assassinations in Tehran and the southern suburb of Beirut as an extension of the war against the Palestinian Resistance in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli media commented on several scenarios in which Hezbollah may neutralize Israeli air defenses using hundreds of precision missiles and swarms of drones. At this point, assessments by Tel Aviv officials acknowledged that long-range, precision-guided missiles could target major cities and strategic Israeli assets, such as military bases, airports, power grids, and hospitals.
