Nicaragua receives Islamic Human Rights award

Managua, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) The permanent representative of Nicaragua to the United Nations (UN), Jaime Hermida, was recognized with the eighth Islamic Human Rights Award, it was reported here today.

The award was given to Hermida for carrying the voice, proposals and firm positions of the Sandinista Government in defense of the rights of the heroic and courageous people of Palestine, according to an official communiqué.

In addition, for his condemnation of the genocide in that Arab nation that caused thousands of deaths and injuries, the forced displacement of millions of Palestinians and the suspension of humanitarian funds, which caused an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The award ceremony was held in Tehran, capital of Iran, and the Nicaraguan Executive was represented by the ambassador of Managua in the Persian nation, Ramon Moncada, noted the communique.

Moncada conveyed the cordial, fraternal and revolutionary greetings of the people and Government of Nicaragua, led by President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo, and thanked Iran for granting such recognition.

In his remarks, Moncada also condemned Israel’s terrorist attack last week resulting in the death of the political leader of the Hamas resistance movement, Ismail Haniyeh.

The diplomat summarized the solidarity and militant measures taken by Nicaragua’s representation at the UN in support of Palestine and in search of a lasting peace in the Middle East.

In this regard, he recognized the right of the Palestinian people to have a free and sovereign state, based on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital, and to be a full member of the UN.
