Natural disasters in Vietnam leave more than 100 dead

Hanoi, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) Natural calamities, mainly landslides and floods, have killed 104 people in Vietnam so far this year, according to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development released here.

Unpredictable natural disasters continue to occur since the beginning of 2024, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said in an official dispatch issued on the matter, calling for proactive measures to prevent, control and deal with the consequences of these phenomena in the future.

Strong heat waves, drought and saltwater intrusion earlier this year were followed by continuous heavy rains, landslides and floods, the document points out, insisting on keeping a close watch on the development of disasters and taking strong, timely and efficient measures to respond to them.

The ministerial office urges localities to refine response plans for each type of calamity, as well as identify vulnerable locations to equip response forces and vehicles and accelerate preparations ahead of the heavy rainfall season.
