Mexico calls on nationals to avoid traveling to Middle East

Mexico City, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) Mexico called on nationals to avoid traveling to the Middle East, especially Israel, Lebanon, and Iran, due to the escalation of the armed conflicts and the deterioration of security in that region, local press informed.

La Jornada newspaper reported that the Foreign Secretariat issued a statement a few hours ago urging those persons in that region to “plan their departure as soon as possible” and warning that “consular assistance and protection measures may be seriously affected.”

“Mexican citizens who are currently in those countries are called on to plan their departure as soon as possible. There are commercial routes for safe departure. Exit options could be drastically limited without prior notice,” the Foreign Secretariat informed.

The Secretariat also provided the emergency phone numbers of the Mexican embassies in Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, and Iran, which will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to assist Mexican nationals.

Tel Aviv brought the Middle East to the brink of a war last week after attacking a suburb of Lebanon and assassinating the leader of the Palestinian organization Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in Iran after which Tehran announced “special operations” to punish those responsible.
