Finland has problems with NATO operations

Helsinki, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) The decision-making processes for the Finnish Armed Forces’ participation in the operations of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are poorly developed and problematic, Defense Ministry representative Markku Viitasaari affirmed on Monday.

Viitasaari stated that his nation needs legislative changes in this area to adapt to NATO requirements.

It is now clear there may be some hardships and slowdowns, and it is currently being assessed what would be the most reasonable and effective way to create a decision-making system and how this would be done, the Defense Ministry representative said on MTV3.

In his opinion, legislative changes will be needed shortly to remove all obstacles to the Finnish military’s participation in Alliance operations.

Vitasaari also stressed that a decision would be soon made on the location of NATO’s ground forces headquarters in Northern Europe.

On June 14, Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen confirmed to establish the NATO ground forces headquarters in the Nordic countries of the republic.

Finland became a member of NATO on April 4, 2023.
