Costa Rica reports 11 people missing per day

San Jose, Aug 5 (Prensa Latina) The wave of violence maintained until today in Costa Rica, which accumulates about 500 homicides this year, also includes the disappearance of an average 11 people per day, according to official media.

The statistics describe an average of one missing person every two hours and a total of 2,178 reports of similar cases up to July 15, added the Judicial Investigation Organism (OIJ), quoted by Teletica channel.

The estimate of 11 missing persons every 24 hours derived from the aforementioned figures leads to think of the possibility of an increase with respect to the data of 2023, calculated the deputy director of that official entity, Michael Soto, added the source.

The numbers indicate annual increases since 2020, when the country registered 1,793 cases; and continued that trend in 2023, with 3,746; which when compared to 2024, show that all months show increases, except in June (66 cases, two less than in the same month of the previous year).

So far this year, the country reports about 500 homicides, a figure equal to the one registered during the same period last year, reported today Teletica channel.

Authorities counted the figure of 400 homicides, only two weeks before the end of the semester, in the same month in which they reported it in 2023, said the Televisora.
