According to the Página 12 newspaper, members of groups such as Mothers and Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, Relatives of the Disappeared and Detained for Political Reasons, Hijos, and Asociación Buena Memoria (lit. “Good Memory Association”), among others, will arrive at the headquarters of Congress at 3:00 p.m. local.
The members of the organizations will meet with representatives of Unión por la Patria (UP), the Radical Civic Union, the Left Front, and the Socialist Party, who presented projects to reject the fact.
The press recently reported that LLA members visited a group of people inmates imprisoned for kidnapping, torturing, murdering, and forcibly disappearing thousands of people, including children.
The visit to the criminals was strongly criticized by unions, politicians, legislators, and former president Cristina Fernández, who warned about the intentions to present an appeal to achieve their release.
Human rights organizations demanded the expulsion of the LLA deputies involved in the event and denounced hate speech and denial of crimes against humanity.
“We consider that to continue consolidating our democracy, the three powers of the State must maintain their commitment to Memory, Truth, and Justice. The actions of the members of the Legislature, elected by popular mandate, cannot be contrary to what is established by our Constitution and international treaties,” says the organization’s statement.
