Cuban Prime Minister paid tribute to Angola’s National Hero

Luanda, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero paid tribute today to Angola's National Hero and first president Antonio Agostinho Neto, as part of the program of his working visit to this country.

The head of government of the Caribbean nation also visited the Alto de las Cruces cemetery for a tribute to Commander Raul Diaz Argüelles, who was the first head of the island’s military mission in Angola and died on December 11, 1975.

On Friday Marrero, accompanied by Army Corps General and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Ramon Espinosa, among other personalities, met Angolan President João Lourenço.

At the Presidential Palace in Ciudad Alta, the prime minister conveyed ‘a warm embrace from the brotherly people of Cuba to the Angolan people’, and a special greeting on behalf of the leader of the Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro and President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

Marrero told the press about the cordiality of the audience with Lourenço, who exchanged with the delegation feelings of friendship, particularly with General Espinosa, who was one of the main military chiefs of the Cuban troops that fought in defense of Angola’s sovereignty and comrade-in-arms of the Angolan president.

The Cuban Prime Minister said that during the meeting they took stock of the relations between the two countries, both politically, economically and commercially, and were informed that on October 11 a hospital will be inaugurated and will bear the name of Raul Diaz Argüelles.

During the day, the Head of Government also led a meeting with Angolan businessmen, during which both parties presented the potentialities for the establishment of mutually advantageous investments and businesses.

He also held a close and friendly talk with representatives of Cuba solidarity groups and members of the Cuban community in Angola, who ratified their support to the island and their willingness to contribute in whatever is necessary to help overcome the current complex economic situation that is affecting the people.

Marrero also toured areas of the Meditex clinic, which with Angolan and Cuban personnel offers services to Cuban collaborators in the country and to the people of Luanda.
