Cuba denies slanderous allegations of alleged intrusion in Venezuela

minrex-comunicado-1
Havana, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has denied the media campaign about alleged interference in Venezuela in last Sunday presidential elections.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) recalled that since July 31 Cuba had denounced that the Venezuelan people were facing media and political manipulation together with imperialist harassment, foreign intrusion and opportunistic attacks by the oligarchies and their representatives.

The Presidency of the Union of Journalists of Cuba warned that same day in a statement that the campaign of harassment and media manipulation against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela had been unleashed once again.

It did not take long for an attempt to be made, as part of the media and political manipulation, to impose a slander alluding to Cuba, the Minrex communiqué pointed out.

It detailed that on the basis of a crude fabrication by the Diario de las Américas, an attempt is being made to present regular flight traffic between Cuba and Venezuela, in an alleged extraordinary movement of people and documentation, linked to the events that took place in Venezuela following the July 28 elections.

It was to be expected that other media and accounts in digital platforms, which work in coordination in intoxication campaigns on the Cuban reality, would assume this slander as a truth, without stopping to check it out, the statement pointed out.

Minrex affirmed that the authorities of Cuba’s Civil Aeronautics Institute have confirmed that between Sunday, July 28 and August 2, 2024, there have been no flights other than previously scheduled commercial ones between Havana and Caracas.

The malicious idea that a flight was “chartered to Turkish Airlines” to cover the Havana-Caracas route is a misrepresentation. The aforementioned airline has four weekly operations.

The communication explained that this route starts in Istanbul on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays; therefore, no plane was chartered especially for emergency traffic or to cover an urgent need, as insinuated by one of the mainstays of the campaign of lies.

The stopover made by this airline in Caracas is to receive passengers’ control services, fuel and pick up passengers.

It also pointed out that there were no changes in the frequencies of the regular routes to these destinations by Conviasa nor Cubana de Aviación airlines.

According to the statement, one of the lies of this slander included the assumption that the aircrafts transported personnel to guard and protect Venezuelan government leaders and specialized personnel to print new electoral records.

Also that it brought back to Cuba some of the medical personnel and other Cuban advisors to protect their lives for fear of the violence that had been unleashed.

It can be categorically stated that no Cuban personnel linked to security operations and protection of Venezuelan leaders nor to carry out any work associated with the electoral process traveled to Venezuela from Cuba.

In no case were Cuban collaborators working in Venezuela transferred to Cuba due to security concerns, on the contrary, the normal and planned flow of movements of the members of the Cuban cooperation in Venezuela was maintained, the communiqué asserted.
