Russian Duma considers Maduro’s re-election in Venezuela legitimate

Moscow, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro achieved a legitimate victory in the presidential elections last Sunday, by a narrow margin, said the head of the lower house of the Russian parliament, Viacheslav Volodin.

The official pointed out that the elections in Venezuela ended with a different winner than the one Washington wanted.

“The result is known: riots in Caracas, attempts to destabilize the situation in the country through the opposition “fed” by the White House. The United States does this for one reason only: its protégé lost. Citizens voted for current president Maduro,” Volodin noted.

In Volodin’s opinion, the events in Venezuela reveal that Washington is playing by its own rules, to preserve hegemony and expand its influence. “Any result, other than the victory of their candidate, is unacceptable to them,” he added.

“Lies, provocations, double standards, the achievement of objectives through other people’s hands and interference in the affairs of sovereign states are methods that are an integral part of the policy of the United States of America,” the parliamentarian stated.
