In a meeting with the secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Japan, Motegi Toshimitsu, at the Malacañan Palace (seat of government), Marcos highlighted the solid relations between the two nations, but acknowledged the need to enhance cooperation in several areas.
I am glad he is coming at a time when relations between the Philippines and Japan are stronger than in our entire history, but there is still a long way to go. We hope to continue to have the support of the legislature and the political leadership of Japan in all that we have started with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Marcos told Motegi, as quoted by the Presidential Communications Office.
For his part, Motegi said Japan also sees the Philippines as an important neighbor and strategic partner.
The visitor also offered condolences to the families of those who died due to the onslaught of super typhoon Carina and the habagat (southwest monsoon).
