Epidemiologist Marcelo Aguilar explained on Ecuavisa channel that according to official statistics, Ecuador has reported 10,000 contagions and 15 deaths due to Covid-19 so far this year.

However, the expert warned that this figure might be higher, since the Ministry of Health counts the serious cases in hospitals, not count the people who come only for outpatient consults and do not need hospitalization.

Aguilar reiterated that there is a significant increase in respiratory diseases in the country.

People have less precautions than they had before and there is a subvariant of the coronavirus, which is FLiRT, which is circulating intensively in Ecuador along with other respiratory viruses, he stressed.
