On the instructions by Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), the State Emergency Disaster Committee is working in North Pyongan and Jagang provinces, on the border with China.
Large areas of these territories were flooded by heavy rains and overflowing rivers, forcing the evacuation of thousands of people in boats and military helicopters.
Local television showed that there is also extensive damage to agriculture and infrastructure. There is still no assessment of the damage, but a bird’s eye view shows that it is extensive.
Officials of the aforementioned Committee are in charge of distributing medicines, food and other supplies with the intention of normalizing the situation as soon as possible.
They have also instructed the population from these and other territories to take all precautions to prevent misfortunes during the current rainy season, which is being quite intense.
