Leaders of African National Congress meet in Pretoria

Pretoria, Aug 1 (Prensa Latina) The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) is meeting on Thursday until Saturday, August 3, to discuss the state of the organization and its programs for the future.

This is the first NEC meeting since the May 29 national and provincial elections, which resulted in a Government of National Unity that includes the ANC and several parties that were previously in opposition.

According to a party press release, the meeting will reflect on the results of these elections in which, for the first time since the advent of democracy in the country in 1994, the ANC received less than 50 percent of the popular vote, remaining at 40 percent.

The NEC meeting will be followed by an expanded conference that will include, in addition to its members, representatives of the provinces, ministers, deputy ministers, prime ministers, and executive mayors.

According to the text, the aim will be to draw up a political program for the party based on the six priorities of the manifesto and the NEC decisions.

Se reúne dirigencia del Congreso Nacional Africano

Pretoria, 1 ago (Prensa Latina) El Comité Ejecutivo Nacional (NEC) del Congreso Nacional Africano (ANC) se reúne desde hoy hasta el venidero sábado 3 para debatir sobre el estado de la organización y sus programas de cara al futuro.

Esta es la primera reunión del NEC desde las elecciones nacionales y provinciales del 29 de mayo, de las cuales emergió un Gobierno de Unidad Nacional que integra, además del mayoritario ANC, a varios partidos que hasta ahora eran la oposición.

Durante el encuentro, según un comunicado partidista, se reflexionará sobre los resultados de esos comicios, en los cuales, por primera vez desde el advenimiento de la democracia en el país (1994), el ANC obtuvo menos del 50 por ciento del favor del electorado, quedándose en un 40.

La reunión del NEC será seguida por una conferencia ampliada que incluirá además de sus miembros, a representantes de las provincias y cuadros desplegados como ministros, viceministros, primeros ministros y alcaldes ejecutivos.

Acorde con el texto, el objetivo será elaborar un programa de políticas para el partido que surja de las seis prioridades del manifiesto y las decisiones del NEC.
