Biden confirms U.S. and Russia prisoner swap deal

Washington, Aug 1 (Prensa Latina) President Joe Biden confirmed Thursday from the White House the completion of a historic prisoner swap between the United States and Russia, after several months of negotiations involving several countries.

Biden, accompanied by family members, stated that in the group of released prisoners are: The Wall Street Journal’s Reporter Evan Gershkovich, arrested in 2023, and former Marine Paul Whelan, detained in 2018.

The president thanked Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Norway and Turkey for helping to secure the deal.
