Alert on the deterioration of salaries in Argentina’s public sector

Buenos Aires, Aug 1 (Prensa Latina) The salaries of public administration employees in Argentina today show an unprecedented deterioration, the State Workers Association (ATE) denounced in a report where it also warns about the complex socioeconomic scenario.

According to a study by the Secretariat of Collective Bargaining Agreements of ATE, there are more and more people with poverty wages and the adjustment implemented by the Government of Javier Milei tends to deepen them..

With a marked downward trend, the numbers confirm the harsh reality that state workers are living, whose salaries are pulverized by the measures of the Executive, in a framework of massive layoffs, dismantling of the State and dismantling of sensitive and strategic public policies for the development and welfare of the people, states the document.

Taking data from the National Institute of Statistics and Census for May, without omitting the inflationary jump of 25.5 percent in December and the abrupt fall in purchasing power caused by the 118-point devaluation of the Argentine peso, the depreciation of salaries was 22.6 percent, it adds.

It also points out that the public sector is the most affected in real terms and warns about the fall in economic activity, the rise in unemployment and the increase in the costs of basic services and food.
