United Nations enhances support for Sudanese refugees in Libya

United Nations, Jul 31 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has allocated an additional 5.3 million dollars to support nearly 200,000 Sudanese refugees in Libya, as the number of those in need is growing.

The amount announced this week also seeks to support Lebanese host communities in the complex context of that African country.

The Central Emergency Response Fund’s allocation will support urgent assistance and strengthen the humanitarian response as more resources are mobilized,” UN Secretary-General’s Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said.

The announcement comes when the Regional Response Plan for Refugees in Sudan is severely underfunded, with 21 percent of the 1.5 billion dollars needed.

The initiative, coordinated by the United Nations Refugee Agency, includes neighboring countries such as Chad, South Sudan, Libya, and Uganda.
