KCNA reported on Wednesday that the North Pyongan and North Jagang provinces near the China border have flooded due to heavy rains and overflowing rivers, forcing to evacuation of thousands of people by boats and military helicopters.
In North Pyongan, the hardest-hit province, more than 4,000 houses and 3,000 hectares of crops were flooded, while roads, railways, and other infrastructure were severely damaged.
During an emergency meeting of the WPK’s Political Bureau, Kim gave detailed instructions for reconstruction work. He proposed to punish the Party and government officials who neglected their duties and failed to prevent the extent of the damage.
The Political Bureau also approved a resolution to provide immediate assistance to the victims during evacuation to correct deficiencies in the civil defense system and repair the damage caused by the floods.
