Meanwhile, health authorities warned about a lack of interest by the population in vaccines.
During the last week of May, the Ministry of Public Health resumed vaccination against Covid-19 with the aim of reducing serious complications and deaths in the population at higher risk of infection, such as children and the elderly.
The Ministry confirmed earlier this month that the new variant KP.2 (FLiRT) of Covid-19 is already circulating in Ecuador.
It recalled that the FLiRT variant has not proven to be serious but it is highly contagious, so in the presence of respiratory symptoms, they suggested taking biosecurity measures such as hand hygiene, the use of face masks and isolation.
The Ministry of Health reiterated that the symptoms of the FLiRT variant are similar to those of a seasonal flu, including fever, muscle pain and headache, chills, respiratory problems.
