Thailand wants to start FTA negotiations with EAEU

Bangkok, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) Thai Trade Minister Phumtham Wechayachai stated on Tuesday that his country is ready to start negotiating a free trade agreement (FTA) with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Wechayachai made the remark during a working meeting with Kazakh Ambassador to Thailand Arman Issetov to gain the support from that member nation of the mechanism, along with Russia, Armenia, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan.

The establishment of the EAEU in 2015 led to a rise in economic cooperation and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of its members, which together reached five billion dollars.

Kazakhstan is significant as a trade and logistics hub; it is the largest economy in Central Asia, leading the region in terms of GDP, purchasing power, and as a gateway to other markets in the region.

Phumtham revealed that Thailand is currently in talks with Kazakhstan to import agricultural products and animal feed from this country.
