The Russian-Brazilian circumnavigation expedition around Antarctica will begin in November, so a Russian ship will head to the coast of South America in October, Makarov told Sputnik.
The scientist added that this rather large project will bring together scientists from eight BRICS member countries.
Makarov did not rule out that Russia and Brazil could conduct a similar project in the Arctic on Russia’s self-propelled North Pole platform.
The platform, which can withstand the pressure of the ice and does not require an icebreaker, serves as a scientific research center and is designed for year-round expeditions in the Arctic Ocean.
