CARICOM winds up its 47th Regular Meeting in Grenada

St. George's, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is winding up its 47th regular meeting of presidents in Grenada on Tuesday after two days of discussions on pressing issues facing the region and the search for consensus to advance integration.

The heads of Government are holding closed-door business sessions at the Radisson Beach resort this Tuesday.

Among the issues under discussion are climate change, sustainable development, and foreign policy, focused on strengthening food and nutrition security.

Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali also analyzed the situation in Haiti, meanwhile, Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, hoped that member states give their opinions on the events in Venezuela following President Nicolas Maduro’s re-election.

The meeting should conclude with a Final Declaration that would capture the consensus on issues of interest and projections to promote CARICOM’s work, its longed-for single market and economy, and the free movement of goods, persons, and capital.

This summit should have been held earlier this month but was postponed due to the devastating passage of Cyclone Beryl through the region, particularly Grenada.

During Sunday’s opening ceremony, CARICOM officially welcomed Curaçao as its sixth associate member and awarded former Guyanese cricketer Clive Lloyd and the bloc’s former secretary general, Roderick Rainford (1983-1992) with the highest decoration.
