According to spokeswoman Hua Chunying, the theme of this edition is “Working together to promote modernization and build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.”

FOCAC was established in 2000 as a platform to strengthen relations between both parties. Since its creation, it has been the scene of important announcements by China, regarding financing projects in Africa. In its beginnings, the main focus was trade, and at the first conference in 2000 Beijing committed to increasing imports from the African continent.

Within the framework of FOCAC, both parties carry out collaborative initiatives such as cooperation forums in health, media, and poverty reduction, as well as training programs for African leaders.
